"Summer scatters three friends, ties them back together, and makes them question who they have been and who they want to be in the future.
Brenna expected to soak up the knowledge of great Irish writers at her summer workshop in Dublin. But there are some things even the best books can't teach you, and a passionate new friend and an old familiar full of surprises challenge Brenna to follow her heart. By the time she's back in the States, she can't wait to throw herself back into Jake's arms and tell him exactly what he means to her.
She puts the brakes on that plan when it becomes clear that Jake may not be ready to shoulder any more. He visits his family's palatial home in the mountains of New York, and is exposed to all the possibilities a life surrounded by his pampered relatives and washed in money would hold for him. But is it possible to accept so much and not change who you are? Jake has to face the reality that changing sometimes means losing things...but how much is he willing to put on the line?
Saxon has been thrust into a life of drudgery and indentured service he never dreamed of after a brush with the law puts him on family-enforced probation. Who would have thought Sussex County's resident bad-ass layabout would fall head-over-heels in love with a girl, an elderly aunt, and a shot at a whole new life. The problem is, he's a Maclean to his marrow, and it's in his blood to be a selfish screw-up. Isn't it?
Brenna, Jake, and Saxon spend one summer growing up, working things out, and doing their best to weather the changes that get thrown their way. But can the love and friendships of one amazing summer last through the ups and downs of the coming years?
Slow Twitch is book number three in the Brenna Blixen series. Book one is Double Clutch, and book two is Junk Miles. All books in this series are YA Mature. Slow Twitch contains sex, drug references, alcohol consumption, and swearing. It is intended for mature or older readers."
MY REVIEW:
"Summer scatters three friends, ties them back together, and makes them question who they have been and who they want to be in the future." - Taken from goodreads.com
The Brenna Blixen series is a coming of age series about a girl who's in love with two brothers. Slow Twitch, the third novel in the Brenna Blixen series by Liz Reinhardt, picked up where Junk Miles left off and continued Brenna, Jake, and Saxon's story. In this fabulous novel, new characters are introduced, a bad boy reforms, a new romance blossoms, a boy goes skinny dipping with a girl who isn't his girlfriend, a girl writes about being in love twice, someone makes a new best friend, and a couple decides to take their relationship to the next level.
Slow Twitch contained everything that I loved about Double Clutch and Junk Miles, plus more.
In this novel, readers get intimately acquainted with Saxon and Jake. ;)
Wait.
That didn't come out right.
Rephrase.
Told from Brenna, Jake, and Saxon's point of view, Slow Twitch allowed readers to get intimately acquainted with Saxon and Jake. The first two novels in the series, Double Clutch and Junk Miles, were told solely from Brenna's perspective, but Slow Twitch is told from all three of the main character's perspectives. Cha-Ching! Having a front row seat to Saxon and Jake's minds really added to this novel, and I discovered a whole new side of Jake and Saxon that I didn't see in Double Clutch and Junk Miles through Brenna's eyes.
Also, Brenna, Jake, and Saxon matured a lot in Slow Twitch. They faced their pasts, changed their paths, and started planning for their futures. The characters really grew up in this novel, especially Saxon. He pulled a complete 180. I really admire the man he is becoming, and I hope that he ends up with Brenna, even though it doesn't really look like it's gonna happen. Don't get me wrong, I like Jake. I just like Saxon more.

I gave Slow Twitch (Brenna Blixen #3) by Liz Reinhardt 4 STARS. Slow Twitch was a great addition to the Brennna Blixen series. I recommend this series to mature young adults. It's a realistic series with real-life characters. Breanna, Jake, and Saxon act like real teenagers. They drink, smoke, cuss, and hook up. They make mistakes. They aren't perfect little goody goodies; they are real characters that you can root for!
